The 927 on West Broadway

The 927 West Broadway project is more than a redevelopment—it’s a reinvestment in people, potential, and the future of North Minneapolis. Led by a partnership between TRI Construction & The Minneapolis Foundation, the building has been transformed into a vibrant hub for community, creativity, and connection.

Original architectural elements—like exposed brick walls and former exterior windows—have been preserved and cleverly reimagined. Windows once opening to the outside of the existing building now face the building’s interior and serve as portals into the past, present, and future of North Minneapolis.

Displayed within these windows are commissioned artworks by Leslie Barlow and A. Drew Hammond, coordinated by Tricia Heurig of Public Functionary to transform the views into visual storytelling.. Nearby, on the exposed brick itself, Kelsi Sharp of Sharp Sign Co. contributes hand-painted signage that grounds the space in pride and permanence—layering the narrative directly onto the architecture.

A "ghosted" brick wall installation in the TRI Construction elevator lobby features the words "God spoke to me"—a quote from CEO Calvin Littlejohn, applied by a local signage artist to reflect his calling to launch the company.

The building maximizes flexible workspace for small businesses and nonprofits. From The Phillips Foundation’s suite to the hospitality-style rooftop lounge—one of the first of its kind on the corridor—the building creates opportunities for connection and growth.

“The 927 Building is more than a redevelopment project. It’s a model of the kind of transformative investment that truly empowers local business and local communities.”

—Calvin Littlejohn, CEO of TRI-Construction
